BiographyJan van Buken was a still life and genre painter. In
1658/1659 he became a master in the Antwerp Guild of
St. Luke. Between 1666 and 1682 he lived and worked
in Rome. In 1690 the painter Jean-Baptiste van Beveren
studied with him in Antwerp. Buken painted genre
scenes with imaginary architectural settings inspired by
the so called “bambocciati” painters in Rome.
