In the US, textiles frequently featured in exhibitions and writing about Scandinavian design. The high cost of packaging and transport hampered exports. In the 1940s NK tried to cut costs with flat-pack furniture. Textiles were easier to send and could be manufactured under licence. NK gave exclusive distribution rights in the US to Knoll Associates Inc., who sold many of the textiles displayed in traveling exhibition "Design in Scandinavia", 1954-1957, for example Stig Lindberg’s Fruktlåda.
