This unique French ebony cabinet features richly sculpted relief decoration in two medallions, containing representations of the fountain of Venus and a feast of the gods. The scenes are surrounded by frames of putti, flower garlands and “cartilage” (or “auricular style”) ornament. The decoration was probably inspired by the work of the Dutch silversmith Adam van Vianen.
