Louise Marie of Gonzaga was married to King John II Casimir of Poland, who was the great-grandson of Gustav Vasa – and the last male member of the Vasa dynasty. This bust in costly marble was made by the Italian sculptor Rossi for the Kazimierz Palace in Warsaw. When the Swedes besieged the city in 1656, it was plundered of objects which were taken back to Sweden, among them the portrait sculptures of Louise Marie and her husband.
