In Købke’s portraits of adults, his approach is often more businesslike. He makes very little attempt to pander to the public, as this unfinished portrait of the Swedish sculptor Bengt Erland Fogelberg demonstrates. Købke first met Fogelberg in Rome and later, in 1839, in Naples. The sitter is depicted with an almost Dürerian gravity.
