The sculpture represents Jesus’ companion Mary Magdalene. She is often depicted in this way, with long hair and a skull. The sculpture has an inscription: Hic terminus haeret: Here is the end of all things. According to the Bible, Mary Magdalene mourned at the cross of Jesus. She was the one who found his tomb empty and the first to testify of the resurrection. Queen Kristina has owned the sculpture.
