Gustaf Fjaestad was a key figure of the artist colony called “The Rackstad Group”, based by the lake Racken in Värmland. The group developed variant of synthetism that in the formal sense was intimately intertwined with Swedish nature. In works like this one Fjaestad mastered this idea to perfection, achieving a rendering that is close to illusory and synthetistically formal at the same time.
