For women artists the home were often the world from which their motifs were taken after they had married and were expected to fulfil their wifely duties. This was only partly true for Hanna Pauli and this portrait of her and Georg Pauli’s son Göran is a private work that was not intended to be sold. The painting resembles a snapshot and recalls modern film clips that record the reactions of children when they eat something acid for the first time.
