This portrait emphasises education rather than play. The boy is showing a map of the Nordic countries and the Baltic Sea, with the borders of the Swedish and Danish kingdoms marked. Ulrica Fredrica Pasch was the first female member of the Swedish Royal Academy of Fine Arts. She came from a family of artists – a prerequisite for her being able to train as a portraitist.
