Per Hasselberg had lived in Paris for a long time when this sculpture was shown at the World Exhibition in 1889. However, in the translation into Swedish, the meaning of the title (slang for a prostitute) has been lost. But it belongs to a long sexist tradition where the bodies of very young girls were exploited both in art and reality. The sculpture eventually became so popular in Sweden that it was duplicated in porcelain, now reduced in size.
